Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the launch of Ridel O, the first varietal-specific wine tumbler, an innovative creation of a casual wine glass with it’s bowl themed on their Vinum series.
The evolution of Riedel O spans two generation. It starts in 1986 when George J Riedel of the 10th generation took the bold step to create the Vinum collection, that was machine made varietal specific glassware reducing the cost, making it more affordable for more people to be able to enjoy drinking beautiful wines from their elegantly thin wine glasses.
The plague of broken stems needed addressing. His son Max Riedel of the eleventh in 2004 he broke with tradition. He took the Vinum bowl and created the first ever varietal-specific wine tumbler -Riedel O. No more broken stems with these beauties.
That was 20 years ago. 2024 is the year to celebrate what Riedel O has given the pleasure of drinking fine wines comfortably. The Key to Wine collection of 3 red wine tumblers for Pinot Noir, Syrah and Cabernet/Merlot, designed to accentuate the pleasure of wines from thin, medium and thick skinned grapes. Each of the three grapes are engraved on the base plate.

The Pinot Noir tumbler can also be used on other thin-skinned grapes Gamay, Nebbiolo and Champagne. The wider bowl and tapered rim bring out the best of the lighter body, smooth tannins and aromatic complexities of these wines.
The Syrah also work with wines made with Blaufränkisch, Grenache, Sangiovese, and Tempranillo. It’s ideal for wines with moderate tannins and diverse flavour spectrums from spicy black pepper and herbs to ripe dark berries and plums.

The Cabermet/Merolt is grapes for wines from thick skinned grapes that are bold and age worthy wines Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. This glass has been crafted to handle potent tannins and deep pigmentation. With each sip the wine’s dense structure and potential for complexity. Over time rich flavours of blackcurrant, plum, tobacco, and dark chocolate will evolve in the palate.
